Absolutely.

"Tristan Jarry is the #1 reason the Penguins are where they are right now." - RW

Not intending to take anything away from Jarry, but I don't suppose the fact that the Pens skaters only allowed the Bluecoats to manage a whopping 17 shots on him has anything to do with his success. A hobbled cast of skaters, no less.

Somewhat shallow observation of last night's total team effort by this blogger.

Easy. Ride the pine and see if Jarry loses the net.

They continue to play Jarry and make sure he can sustain his play or something reasonably close to it. If he does, I still don't think they do anything until the off-season because GMJR loves his goalie depth.

But for now, just play it out. Murray finding his form and Jarry falling apart is still very possible.

Yeah there’s no reason to worry about anything until the off season.

Imagine if Jarry is the guy moving forward. What an incredible (and unexpected) couple of gifts moving forward with Jarry and Marino. Saving money on those guys is exactly what they need to extend the window.

Jarry's heads up plays in OT were great. It's nice to have a golaie that can play the puck well. Buys time for the D and can help pressure the other team in those instances. That PP was god awful though. Nice move by Rust to finish it.

I love it when Torts is PO'd after playing us. That transcript was pretty funny.

Do we have a Jake Allen and Binnington situation here? I could move forward with a Jarry/DeSmith despite some here feelling Jarry will fall apart and DeSmith is no good to perform in the playoffs. I really doubt it.

Jarry is making MM's next contract weaker and weaker if he stays a Pen. MM might want to look to get moved.

Letang and Shultz looked like they were fighting for the same spot on the PP in OT.

Marino's cap ramifications are huge. That 3M they saved without Gudbranson becomes 7M at the deadline. And he's filled the biggest off-season need for under 900k.

And yeah, if Jarry gets a bridge deal versus Murray (who is rumored to be asking high in negotiations) that's another 3-4M. Suddenly we're in a position to add not subtract in July.

I'd say MM himself is making his next contract weaker and weaker regardless if he stays a Pen. What I'm really concerned about is him making the return on a trade weaker and weaker.

Pulled this off Twitter. It's something I've thought about but, but he says better about Addison who just doesn't seem to be improving since drafted. I would like a 3rd pair puck movers, but he might have more trade value than that, though I'd still want the trade to be worthwhile:

I don't watch Addison at all so maybe there's more to his game than offense now, but he's trending down there. his PNHLe two years ago was ~70 and has gone down each year since (now ~40). combined w/ Marino's rapid ascent I'd look to move him sooner rather than later.

you'd hope for Addison's point total to go up year over year, esp w/ the best player in the WHL on his team. there's been no increase in production.

not saying he can't be a decent 2nd/3rd pair sheltered offensive specialist - but that appears to be an optimistic NHL ceiling at this point.

Very true....I think JR has positioned himself well with the roster and cap. He is in a position to deal.

Bryan Rust never lifted an opponent's stick until he met Crosby.

He actually played well at the end of the year while in WBS. He was noticable every time he was on the ice in a good way. Him and Lafferty were the only 2 that you really saw fly around on the ice at a different speed. Addison also seemed to have top notch passing skills. I only watched him for a few games though.

Having two goalies who can be an NHL starter is huge going forward. Never know when an injury will pop up. Besides, the competition for the net should make both goalies better. Lots could happen but the real drama will start once the season ends. Til then, enjoy the ride.

MM is not even playing at NHL starter level. I dont dislike MM, but no way should the Pens be discussing an extension at this point with him.

Or this is the exact time to discuss an extension with him because his play is suffering and his recent play may bring his overall price tag down given is consistency issues.

On that note, what do we think MM trade value is? I mean it like, if someone was inquiring for him, rather than us shopping him, which i would assume drops his percieved value?

Nice, thanks. Addison has talent, but I've been questioning whether he can play 2nd pair or if he was more like Schultz that he provides offense but might be better in a sheltered role. Marino looks like he's locking down that spot anyways. I'd actually like that 3rd pair puck movers, but he's probably not close to NHL ready and is our top rated prospect so if 3rd pair is his ceiling he might be a good trade chip.

Honestly I’m not sure.

On one hand you have a young two time Stanley cup winning goalie who helped close out the playoffs.

On the other hand you have a goalie who’s struggled with consistency in the regular season and battled with some injuries.

I think GMs probably lean more to the “2 time Stanley cup” portion a little more than the latter, given the penchant to trade for “playoff experience” all the time, or bring in a “proven guy,” but really, who the (frank) knows. They could probably get some good pieces for him as he is restricted as well.
